Freedom of choice for everyone

“Her marriage was characterized by severe abuse. Even after the divorce the ex-husband of Kezban Vural (a young Turkish woman of 29) continued to harass, stalk and threaten her. Kezban frequently reported the abuse to the police, but they did nothing about it. On June 22, 1999, Kezban was shot to death by her ex-husband in Zwijndrecht in front of her children (7 and 9).”

Knowledge & approach honor related violence, sexuality and forced marriage

““Never again. What happened to Kezban should never happen again,” her friends and other women involved in the issue of domestic violence said. And so they set up the Kezban Foundation in early 2001. The aim of our foundation is to openly discuss and tackle harmful traditional practices surrounding forced marriage, honor related violence and spousal abandonment.

For this purpose we develop suitable materials and methodologies to raise awareness among the migrant community. Our methods are publicly available and we gladly share them with partner organizations, governments and policymakers, both nationally and internationally.
